  3. I have both the 4 vol. "Liturgy of the Hours" and the one vol. "Prayer of the Church", both purchased on this website.

No English translation of LOTHs, as of Sept 2012, is so up-to-date and so close to the current Latin edition as this Kenyan edition. The New Grail Psalter is a great improvement, and the collects for more recent saints follow the Latin closely. The saints on the Univeral Calendar are present up to the time of publication, 2009; the national saints are from Kenya. My only regret is that a table for the scriptural citations for the Two Year Cycle of the Office of Readings is not in these books; I pray the two year cycle.

Thank you, Sisters of St. Paul! How I wish there were something like "The Lay Confraternity of the Divine Office"!

  4. Hi friend,

I have been contemplating getting the 4 volumns and after reading your comment I think I will.

I have been using the British breviary for years but interested in the African version.

Wish I could order off Amazon as it seems a challenge ordering from this website.

  6. Yes:

there is now a an Official English language Hymnal for the Liturgy of the Hours, it is made by the Dominican Province of St. Joseph in the USA, It is an incredible accomplishment !!! It follows all the traditional historic melodies. It also includes latin versions. It does however feature extra dominican saints hymns, which one can either ignore or include as they see fit. I can not recommend it more highly. The only shortcoming is that, as many hymn translations came from 19th c. anglo-catholics (anglicans) (J.M. Neale) for instance, some of them have been made less poetic by occasinally adapting a "Thee and THou" to "You and Yours". This however is something to be improved over time, presently it is more than enough to give one a taste of "heave on earth". :-)
